Another SQL script question.

Hey all,

How do i make sure that the local machine aspnet user account has privilages after installing my sql script on a local machine. ( this script gets run during my vb.net setup project. )

i was thinking about adding the user to the sql script its self. but i am unsure how to do this.

if anyone could help i would be greatly appreciative.

the syntax for adding a user assumes you know the full nt user account info. correct?

domain\user account.

what i would like to do is add the local machine\aspnet account. without knowing what the name of the local machine is.

Chris.|||I've gotten around that problem by using Sql Server authentication instead of a trusted connection.

-- Create Sql authentication login for 'SomeName'
EXEC sp_addlogin @.loginame='SomeName',@.passwd='SomePassword',@.defdb=N'SomeDefaultDb'
-- and making sure you are executing from 'SomeDatabase' grant access to 'SomeName' to the database 'SomeDatabase'
EXEC sp_grantdbaccess 'SomeName'

There is probably some server side property or method you can call that will tell you who the ASPNET user is running as (e.g., domain\ASPNET) which would allow you to use the other syntax to create a trusted connection.

Another Login after restoring database

Hello all,
I have created a backup of a database and Restored as a new database in another machine.
Primary login of the database was X , now after restoring as a new database I dont want X as the login name i want it to be Y ...
how to do that ?

I can create other login as y and Give necessary premissions...but the Problem is i have to manually issue all the permissions to the new user which i feel is a time taking process.

Please let me know about it..

saiI am not sure but u can try this :
script the login and user for the database in question,after generating the script for the user X,delete the the user X from the database ,Replace the user/login name X from the script with Y and run the script on the database.
I think this should work after some enhancements in the script.|||Use roles!

Anonymus suscription over Internet

Hi;
Before I have done probes with a sql server (role publicator and distributor
in the same machine whit transactional replication)and a pull anonymus
suscription over internet (thought a router-NAT and Firewall).
In suscriber I used an alias for the publisher, and I obtained that
replciation system worked well.
Now, I have a configuration replication system and one publication (permit
anonymus suscriptions)
1) Publicator in one Sql Server with a publication and correct permiss.
2) Distributor in other Sql Server.
Both server communicate well and the replicaton work without problem
(aconting agents are well).
But, I have problems with pull anonymus suscribers configuration over
Internet.
Only Distribuitor Server is accessible througt Internet (router is TCP
listen port).
1) Suscriber should can access both servers over Internet (Publicator and
Distribuitor) ?
or only Distribuitor server ?
2) If only Distribuitor should can access from Suscriber, how I configure
Suscription, because publication are not visibles for this.

I have created an Analysis services project on a laptop running developer edition SQL 2005. The database is hosted on the local machine. When I attempt to debug or deploy the project I get an error;

Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'localhost' server because of the following connectivity problems : A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server.

It seems bizarre as I can view tables, create dimensions, cubes etc also I have database as a connection in the server explorer.

I have checked that the services are running, I've restarted them also just in case.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

2.if you are connecting to a remote server its fine or if you are connecting to the SSAS through http then you may have to configure that(hit google 4 more help)

I think in your case the SSAS service is not started,mostly SSAS service when installed is tagged as 'manual'

so please 'start' the SSAS service and try deploying !!

Analysis Services on the web problems

I basically have 2 problems:

1]I am on a client Machine (Win2000 client).This is within the firewall. My SQL Server2000(Mixed mode authentication,Enterprise Edition) and Analysis server are on a Windows 2000 Advnaced Server running with IIS 5.0.This server is outside the firewall. I also have Analysis services installed on machine. I wanted to create a cube on my client machine using the SQL Server 2000 on the machine outsided the firewall.So I did the following.
[a]Created a system DSN , say TRIALDSN, on my client that points to the SQL server,with 'sa' and password as 'admin'.It worked.
[b]Then I went to Analysis services on my client, created a new
Database, and a new Data Source with the DSN name as TRIALDSN.This worked too.And THEN, I right clicked on the Cube directory and said New Cube|Editor. I am getting the message .."Connection to the 'servername-databasename' data source failed.Error:Login failed for user 'sa'.Do you want to retry? with 'Yes' and 'No' options. Can anyone help me with this error....
2]With the same setup as above, I am trying to view the cubes on the server from my client PC. I am stuck with a problem here too. This is what is my requirement.
I need a html/asp page on the server with the cube data,that a user can access from a client machine on the internet and perform drill-downs and anything else he wants. So, this is what I tried out.
On the server outside the firewall: Got the cubes onto Excel.Here I selected the Analysis Server radio button, giving the Analysis server name as the servname(that is the name of the same machine),say "ABC01". I did (and tried without too) give the username and password for the http connections.Got the data onto excel.Then I did a 'Save As Web Page' and got the excel as an html, with all the excel features still retained (although the 3D effects of the charts were lost). I then copied this html file, say, EXAMPLE.htm to the C:\inetpub\wwroot along with the msolap.asp file.
I opened the browser and gave the url for this html and everything was fine.
By the way the IIS settings are as follows:
Integrated Windows Authentication checked
Changed the default IUSR_machinename to Administrator

On the client within the firewall:Opened the browser and typed in the url as follows:
http://IP address of the server/EXAMPLE.htm
I am getting the error "The Pivot Table List 'PivotTable2' could not connect to the data source "cubename".For information about the data source, consult the creator of the file.
0x80040e4d: The operation requested failed due to security problems - the user could not be authenticated.
Some how, the data source property with the value 'ABC01' in the connection string of the html is giving the problem. What should I do?? But the whole point is, I am able to access normal html pages on the server from the client, that is , html pages that do not connect to cubes.
I am desparate for help. Thanks in advance.

Analysis Services connection using AMO

I have AS2005 running on a development machine, and i am trying to connect to it via my application running on another machine.

The code is using the Analysis Mangement Object (AMO) API.

Currently, my application code only tries to connect and disconnect from the server.

Server svr = new Server();

svr.Connect(connectionString); < Exception thrown here

svr.Disconnect();

The connectionString simply contains the remote server's name. I have also tried different connection strings but it has not helped.

I have also enabled remote connections on AS, and opened the default port number on the server's firewall.

Every time it tries to connect the exception thrown is:

"Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

Can anybody help me with this problem?

I'm not sure if this will help, but I was getting a similar error with

the BI Development Studio. In that case it was a security

issue. Basically, becasue the machine was on a different domain,

I had to create a user on that machine with the same username /

password as the one that I log into my machine with. Have you

tried connecting in any other way?|||

Is the "other machine" an AS2K5 instance?

Analysis Services Connection problem.

I am trying to test a connection in Reporting Services to an Analysis Services 2000 database. I get a Test Connection Succeeded from one machine and I can't even select the databases in the connection properties on another machine. What can I look at that might be preventing one machine from seeing the Analysis Services Server?

Analysis Services Admin access to one database only

On a given Analysis Server the machine level OLAP Administrators group controls which users have admin access to AS Databases and Cubes on that machine. From everything I have read, if you are in the OLAP Administrators group you have full access to administer ALL the databases and cubes.

We have a need to create a OLAP database and grant a few users (a role) full admin access to create and maintain datasouces and cubeswithin that database but NOT allow them admin access to the other existing databases and cubes on the server. This seems like such a common requirement. Has anyones else encountered and resolved this issue.
