Another Suspect ?

Hi
My database went into suspect mode. I made some space on the drives after I
was unable to add additional log files
sp_add_log_file_recover_suspect_db nestledb_jp_coremart_v1, logfile2,
'D:\MSSQL\Data\db1_logfile2.ldf',
'100MB'
Server: Msg 9004, Level 23, State 1, Line 1
An error occurred while processing the log for database
'NestleDB_JP_CoreMart_V1'.
ALTER DATABASE nestledb_jp_coremart_v1 ADD LOG FILE(NAME = [logfile2],
FILENAME = 'D:\MSSQL\Data\db1_logfile2.ldf', SIZE = 100MB )
Connection Broken
So that didn't work so only way was to make space. So I made space on the
drive and ran the proc and restarted the lot. Nothing.
Thanks for helpHi,
If you have adequate space in hard disk Can you reset the status of the
database using sp_resetstatus system procedure and stop and start the SQL
server service and
see what happends. If the database is still marked suspect please check the
SQl server error log and post us the error.
Incase if the LDF is giving issues, you can start the database by emergency
mode. Update the status column of the suspect database in sysdatabases table
to 32768.
After that you can create a newe database and use DTS to transfer data and
other objects.
Thanks
Hari

I'll have to try this emergenvy startup.

I love SQL :P
So problem solved...
What was the problem ...
Some clever person set the transaction log size to a specific limit and "do
not grow automatically" thus even though I did make space it didn't help wit
h
the recovery since the file couldn't grow. I have no idea why I couldn't add
an additional log file though.
So as you said I changed it to emergency mode, fixed the automatically grow
log. Set status back to suspect and then did the restart and it recovered
correctly.
One thing that's not usefull is the fact that when you go into EM you can't
see filegroups and database setttings due to suspect mode. This is a pain
cause the moment I could see that the file didn't grow automatically I could
fix the problem.
Why do SQL disable the properties for viewing once it goes into suspect ?
How do these settings affect data ? assuming data integrity is the ONLY
reason why SQL change mode to suspect to start off with .
Thanks for help.

Annotations in design mode?

Is there any way to persist Annotations in design mode? I'm considering using them to keep track of measure-group specific state, but I'm worried that every time I re-deploy my cube, I'll lose this info.

Does anyone have experience using Annotations? Are they only exposed via the AMO OM?

In design mode, you can switch to raw XMLA code view by right clicking on the object. You can select "view code" and you'll see XML representation of the object.

You got to be careful modifying the XML directly such that if something goes wrong, you might loose consistency of your object. But on the other hand XML representation gives you power to access any property (such as annotations ) directly without UI.

Again. Be careful with using raw XML code view, but if you feel comfortable with modifying XML, adding new tags you should be able to add annotations to pretty much any object in your database.

Annotated Mapping Schema

I have a stored procedure that uses the FOR XML EXPLICIT mode to return an xml view of my data. I then insert this xml into another table.
Instead of writing complicated T-SQL with the FOR XML EXPLICIT mode I'd like to use an xsd schema, however I can't find examples that let you apply the transformation in a stored procedure / test it in Query Analyzer. All the examples I've found involve m
apping the schema in the URL or using a SqlXmlCommand object.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Cheers,
Paul
Mapping Schemas are a client-side technology - actually, they just generate
FOR XML EXPLICIT statements on the server (you can see this by running a
trace when retrieving data with a schema). As such, there's no way to
reference them from within a T-SQL sproc. Sorry!

YOu need do have a look in the WIndows event log or in the log files of SQL Server mentioned. There is a problem starting the service, the message that you provided is just a generic one which doesn′t tell the specific error.

|||What service account are you using for the service. It could be that the service account used doesn′t have the appropiate permissions to start up SQL Server. Change that (e.g. to Local System) and see if a manual startup comes up successfull.

Analysis Services on the web problems

Hi,

I basically have 2 problems:

1]I am on a client Machine (Win2000 client). This is within the firewall. My SQL Server2000(Mixed mode authentication,Enterprise Edition) and Analysis server are on a Windows 2000 Advnaced Server running with IIS 5.0.This server is outside the firewall. I also have Analysis services installed on machine. I wanted to create a cube on my client machine using the SQL Server 2000 on the machine outsided the firewall. So I did the following.
[a]Created a system DSN , say TRIALDSN, on my client that points to the SQL server, with 'sa' and password as 'admin'.It worked.
[b]Then I went to Analysis services on my client, created a new
Database, and a new Data Source with the DSN name as TRIALDSN.This worked too.And THEN, I right clicked on the Cube directory and said New Cube|Editor. I am getting the message .."Connection to the 'servername-databasename' data source failed.Error:Login failed for user 'sa'.Do you want to retry? with 'Yes' and 'No' options. Can anyone help me with this error....
2]With the same setup as above, I am trying to view the cubes on the server from my client PC. I am stuck with a problem here too. This is what is my requirement.
I need a html/asp page on the server with the cube data, that a user can access from a client machine on the internet and perform drill-downs and anything else he wants. So, this is what I tried out.
On the server outside the firewall: Got the cubes onto Excel. Here I selected the Analysis Server radio button, giving the Analysis server name as the servname(that is the name of the same machine),say "ABC01". I did (and tried without too) give the username and password for the http connections.Got the data onto excel. Then I did a 'Save As Web Page' and got the excel as an html, with all the excel features still retained (although the 3D effects of the charts were lost). I then copied this html file, say, EXAMPLE.htm to the C:\inetpub\wwroot along with the msolap.asp file.
I opened the browser and gave the url for this html and everything was fine.
By the way the IIS settings are as follows:
Integrated Windows Authentication checked
Changed the default IUSR_machinename to Administrator

On the client within the firewall:Opened the browser and typed in the url as follows:
http://IP address of the server/EXAMPLE.htm
I am getting the error "The Pivot Table List 'PivotTable2' could not connect to the data source "cubename".For information about the data source, consult the creator of the file.
0x80040e4d: The operation requested failed due to security problems - the user could not be authenticated.
Some how, the data source property with the value 'ABC01' in the connection string of the html is giving the problem. What should I do?? But the whole point is, I am able to access normal html pages on the server from the client, that is , html pages that do not connect to cubes.
I am desparate for help. Thanks in advance.

AshCould you find the solution. If yes, pls. pls. let me know.

I am having the same error and I need some quick solution. My email: surbha0@.yahoo.com

Thanks a lot in advance,
Saurabh
